DJI Mini 2 Compatible Tablets

The DJI Mini 2 is revered for many reasons, including its compact design, its low weight (under 0.55 grams), its video recording and photo-taking capabilities, and its flight time.

However, its compatibility with an array of tablets is somewhat limited.

The Mini 2 is primarily geared toward hobbyists and newcomers to flying drones. In some cases, Mini 2 pilots are pros who simply wish to have a compact drone in their pocket.

With this in mind, DJI designed the Mavic Mini 2 remote controller to mainly be compatible with a smartphone.

Most hobbyists aren’t going to invest in an iPad, so the smartphone works just fine most of the time. Pros on the go might be able to use a smartphone as well, but it’s not ideal for quality drone piloting.

Why use a tablet?

While it may be easy to travel with, pilots who are used to flying their drones using a larger remote controller and a larger tablet such as an Android, Windows, or Apple iPad may be distressed when flying using only their iPhones.

For some, flying with an iPhone or Android is probably fine, but others who wish to make sure that they can effectively spot all the details within the frame of the drone’s camera may run into trouble with this downscaled viewfinder.

Not only is using a larger viewfinder better for identifying features shown on screen, but it’s also easier to navigate through settings, especially when wearing gloves.

Another huge benefit of using a tablet as opposed to a smartphone is that other people can look on with you as you pilot the Mavic Mini 2.

When using a smartphone, showing your screen is very difficult, and the low visibility of phones in the sun makes it even harder.

Finally, the iPad allows for more accurate flight planning if you are performing an automated flight with your Mavic Mini 2.

Solutions

The remote control for the Mavic Mini 2 isn’t compatible with an Apple iPad, Android tablet, or Google tablet. That is to say, the way it’s designed currently, as who knows what changes can occur in the future.

There are some devices that can modify the Mavic Mini 2 controller to hold a regular full-size tablet. One very easy at-home way to do so is to skip mounting the tablet to the remote controller altogether.

In some cases, if the pilot plans on being stationary during the flight, all that is required for the Mavic Mini to be compatible with a larger tablet is a long cord that connects the remote controller to the tablet.

If this is the case for you, simply buy a longer cord, with one end being the USBC that sticks into the remote controller and the other being the end that sticks into the tablet.

If you’re working with an iPad, you’ll want to find a cord on one end that has a USBC to connect to the remote controller, and on the other end has an Apple Lightning cord.

If you’re using an Android tablet, Google tablet, or Windows tablet, you want to find a cord that has the USBC on one end to connect to the remote controller and on the other end another USBC that can connect to your tablet.

There are other brands aside from DJI that makes an array of these cords and sells them for fairly affordable prices.

Tip: The new cord should be at least a foot long so that it can wrap from the left side of the remote controller down to your iPad or tablet of choice. This method is not the best, however, but it is the most straightforward and will always work.

There are some cases where the tablet that you are using might be out of date. Early tablets such as the iPad 4 cannot update to the latest generation of firmware and the DJI Fly app will not even download onto the tablet.

You’ll want to find an iPad (if you’re using Apple as your tablet provider) that is past Generation Eight to be safe.

Now we’ve got that out the way, here are some attachments that you can purchase to make your Mavic Mini 2 compatible with your tablet.

Keep in mind you’ll still want that foot-long cord!
